CHS Health Services currently has a per diem RN position in a primary care /occupational medicine clinic on site at large employer in the Smyrna, TN area.

SCOPE:
Under general supervision, the Occupational Health Nurse performs a variety of professional duties involved in developing and delivering occupational and non-occupational nursing services at a health unit onsite at an employer worksite, a client of CHS Health Services, Inc. Assists in planning, implementing and evaluating health maintenance, health education programs, and wellness programs. Reports to the Unit/Site Manager.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Fully unencumbered and current Registered Nurse license in state of practice required. Three or more years of experience in occupational health nursing, hospital nursing, emergency room, critical care, public health nursing, or any combination of the above is required. Ability to make independent nursing judgments. American Heart Association Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) required. Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification a plus.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provides direct care, including assessment, treatment, and referral to a higher level of care when indicated, of occupational and non-occupational injuries and illnesses, using approved CHS Health Services, Inc. nursing protocols and medical directives.
  • Provides clinical care to include:
o Assessment, treatment and triage of personal and work-related injuries and illnesses per protocol

o Response to emergencies

o Administration of injections per protocol or CHS Health Services, Inc. procedure

o Administration of travel inoculations and provide information regarding patient’s travel.

o Blood draws, Drug Screens, Spirometry, Audiograms, EKGs, Titmus, Tonometry, etc

  • Provides guidance to seek care from personal health care providers as indicated, and health care teaching and education.
  • Assures quality of care by adhering to: 1) the nursing protocols and medical directives as written; 2) the standards of practice for occupational and environmental health nursing; 3) the scope of practice as outlined by the State Board of Nursing, and 4) continuously monitors and improves quality of care utilizing CHS Health Services, Inc. audit parameters.
  • Provides health related counseling for employees within the scope of nursing knowledge and practice.
  • Performs health screenings and assists with follow-up, and outcomes reports within the context of corporate wellness programs.
  • Protects patients and co-workers by adhering to infection-control policies and protocols, medication administration and storage procedures, and controlled substance regulations.
  • Maintains complete and accurate records on the employee, regarding health history and any care given, maintaining these records in compliance with the Privacy Act.
  • Maintains patient privacy and confidentiality.
  • Maintains nursing supplies inventory by checking stock to determine inventory level; anticipating needed supplies; placing and expediting orders for supplies; verifying receipt of supplies; using equipment and supplies as needed to accomplish job results.
  • Maintains professional knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies.
  • Maintains a cooperative relationship among health care teams by communicating informational responding to requests; building rapport, participating in team problem-solving methods.
  • Meets with and receive direction from the Unit/Site Manager and Manager, Client Operations as appropriate.
  • Learns all aspects of the clinic, including: the front desk, collection of money, answering phones, making appointments, etc.
OTHER DUTIES:
  • Performs duties in a safe manner. Follows the corporate safety policy. Participates and supports safety meetings, training and goals. Ensures safe operating conditions within area of responsibility. Encourages co-workers to work safely. Identifies “close calls” and/or safety concerns to supervisory personnel. Maintains a clean and orderly work area.
  • Assists in active implementation of company initiatives to ensure compliance with DOT, HHS, OSHA VPP, ISO, JCAHO, AAAHC, and other mandated regulations/standards.
  • May serve on the OSHA VPP, Safety, and Wellness Committees.
  • Other duties as assigned.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Work is normally performed in a typical interior clinic/office environment. Work involves sitting and standing for prolonged periods of time. May require bending, stooping and lifting up to 15 lbs. Good eye/hand coordination required.
