NOTE: A Recruitment/Relocation Incentive up to 20% has been authorized for a highly qualified candidate. A two year length of service agreement is required. Permanent Change of Station (PCS) has been authorized.
The incumbent serves as a psychiatrist and is assigned to the Mental Health Service at VA Medical Center (VAMC) Memphis. Incumbent provides comprehensive clinical services to Veterans and their families. The incumbent will perform general p! sychiatric assessment and treatment in a multi-disciplinary setting com! posed of psychiatrists, psychologists, psychiatric social workers, physician extenders and a variety of rehabilitation/recovery therapists. The incumbent will work closely with his/her colleagues to provide comprehensive, state-of-the-art mental health care. As many of these patients suffer from Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, experience and competence in treating this type of condition is desirable. The incumbent shall work under the direction of the Section Chief of Psychiatry.
Incumbent provides clinical services in the Emergency Department, Inpatient Psychiatry Unit, Mental Health Outpatient Clinic, and/or other areas as based upon need and reports administratively to the Section Chief of Psychiatry.
Working Hours: Negotiable to support the Department of Veterans Affairs mission to provide the best care possible at hours convenient to our Veteran population. On call is required after 4:30pm and on weekends and holidays in rotation with other att! ending psychiatrists. Most call is provided as back-up to University of Tennessee psychiatry residents.

Physical standards - All applicants must meet the physical standards for the position. A physical examination prior to employment may be required.
Licensure and Registration - Current, full, and unrestricted license to practice medicine in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico) of the United States or in the District of Columbia. The Physician must maintain a current registration to continue employment with the VA Educational requirements.
Board Certified or Board Eligible in Psychiatry
Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Secret! ary of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was c! ompleted.. Approved schools are: For residents, graduation from an approved medical school as described above is required. First-Year Residency (Internship) - Completed a first-year residency, or its equivalent, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs for the year in which it was competed. For a VA resident, the appropriate Deans Committee and Resident Review Board may recommend appointment on the basis of the candidate's acceptability for residency training. Approved residencies are: Those approved by the Council on Medical Education and Hospitals, American Medical Association, in the list published for the year the residency was completed OR Other residencies or their equivalents which the Professional Standards Board determines to have provided an applicant with appropriate professional training. The Board may determine that the residency requirement has been met if the candidate has completed 1 year of postgraduate education.

DESIGNATED DRUG-TESTING POSITION: Applicants tentatively selected for VA employment in a testing designated position are subject to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment.
